Part of both of our personal journeys toward healing and wholeness over the past few years have been through this concept of Story Work groups, or Confessional Communities.
Inspired by the work of Curt Thompson (therapist, interpersonal neurobiologist and all-around neighborly guy), the groups we’ve been involved with have allowed us to not only experience healing ourselves, but also bear witness to the deep spiritual healing in others. This deep work of God’s Spirit is a joy to experience when we are willing to be vulnerable with a small group of compassionate humans who hold our stories well.
Partnering with other experienced and trusted leaders, each of us will be offering one or two new groups* that start once or twice a year, depending on interest and need. If you’re considering joining a group when our next session starts, please reach out.**
Interested but want to know more? For more information about the concept behind Confessional Communities, read Curt Thompson’s book The Soul of Desire, or check out The Center for Being Known (CBK).
*Note: while Joel’s groups have previously been run through the CBK, we’ll be shifting our new groups to run independently. This offers more flexibility for calendars and capacity.
**For those who are able, a small donation ($50 value) to cover the costs of facilitating the groups is suggested but not required.
